"My sister went to the academy, too." Aeré places his plate in front of him again. "But of course you know that. Knowing my life and knowing my sister. She didn't tell me much of her training at the Academy." The Senator sits down in front of him again. "But I remember one thing. Officers are not just trained in warfare. They are trained in socializing, too." She looks completely serious, but perhaps there is a hint of a smile in the corner of her lips.

"That is true, senator. An officers job is not only to fight the enemy, but also to keep the soldiers in line, and work with people outside the military."

Maybe Aeré's smile becomes a little more visible. You can never tell concerning her. "That includes dancing, too, if I am not misinformed? My sister had a hard time through her dance lessons at the academy."

Seth may not see a smile on her face, but he is somehow positive it is there. "Correct. And I think most of us had a hard time accepting dancing lessons, when we just wanted to protect the Republic from its lethal enemies."

"So you know how to dance?" Aeré tilts her head ever so slightly. The smile is there on her lips now, no doubt about it. "What kind of dance?"

"I'm afraid it's a skill, I have forgotten, senator. Why, I didn't know you had a special interest in dances. Must have overlooked something." His voice is absolutely calm.

Aeré raises her eyebrows. "Yes, as a matter of fact I have a special interest in the art of dancing," she answers. "It is a skill required at many receptions or balls in my world. It could be a matter of life and death to my political life some day."

"Life and death? I guess lessons in self defence are on high priority for you then, senator."

"Self defense?" Aeré laughs shortly, still a little chill to her voice. "That will not be needed, I can assure you! I don't fight people. My sister takes care of that sort of action." She looks at him, an almost teasing glimpse in her eyes. "You should learn to dance again."

"Self defence is more a way to get out of the 'action' alive, than it is 'action' itself. What will you do, if you are attacked, and my skills are not enough to save you? Sit down and die?" Does he smile back at her? "You should learn about defending yourself, senator. In case a situation on life and death comes up."

Aeré frowns a bit, but her smile is a little clearer with a hint of surprise. "I appriciate your concern, Seth, but my sister has already taught me some of the basic tecniques in self-defense. Do I need a more thorough course? And I know how to handle a blaster."

"In your position, senator, you need all the protection you can get. Even self defence." He looks at her closely. "You know how to shoot? Good. And you carry a blaster?"

"You made me carry one," Aeré answers coldly. "So yes. I am." She rests her finger tips against each other. "So I need to take lessons in selfdefense?"

Seth nods, and completely ignores every hint of annoyance in her voice. "I can't force you to take lessons, but I highly recommend you doing it."

Aeré tilts her head. "You can't force me? That is unconvinient." She falls silent for some time, wondering about something. Then she looks at Seth again. "How about we make a deal? You teach me how to fight, and I teach you how to dance."

What?? "A deal, senator?"

"Yes, a deal. Or you could call it a kompromise, if that makes you feel better." Aeré takes another bite of her meal and takes her time to chew it, before she turns her attention to him again. "What do you think?"

Seth pushes his now empty plate a bit away from himself, before answering. "I do not see why I need to learn to dance again. So what about this: I teach you self defence because it is important. You teach me how to dance, if a good reason for it comes up."

"You need to follow me around everywhere, right?" Aeré folds her hands again and looks at him with a cold smile. "You need to know how to blend in with my world. And I need someone to assist me at receptions and balls, where I would normally go alone."

You just shot yourself in the foot, Vall.
Did not.
"-And where you will of course use every opportunity to socialise with people around you, while I need to keep an eye on everyone."

"I socialize. Don't trouble yourself. But other Senators does not dance with me. Either they are married, or I am just an old widow to their eyes." Aeré shrugs. She knows what most people think about her. The Steel Lady. The Silver Widow. "It is not good for my reputation. So I need someone to dance with, if needed. A person who will not jump to any... second conclusions. And then you can keep an eye on everyone around me."
