Leyla steps out of the turboelevator, on one of the residence levels.
She walks in a normal paste, down the corridor.
She heads towards Thea's room, wanting to talk to the young Jedi. She must be going through a hard time, when her friend is missing, and Leyla wants to offer her some comfort.
She stops by the door that leads into her room and knocks softly on the door, waiting patiently.

Thea hears the knock on the door and gets up slowly from her bed. She crosses the room still a bit sore from her attempts to train on her own. She opens the door cautiously.
"Master Mir, what brings you here?" She asks surprised.

"I just wanted to stop by for a talk." Leyla smiles warm. "May I come in?"

Thea nods slowly, "Of course, Master." She steps aside holding the door open for her teacher.

Leyla nodds and walks past Thea into the room, taking a look around before she turns to the other again.
"We haven't talked that much, since what happened to A'lyra." She folds her hands in front of her and looks concerned at Thea. "I wanted to make sure, that you are all right."

Thea closes the door behind her and turns towards Leyla, waiting patiently. She is surprised by the Master's question. She hesitates before answering, "It has been hard. She always was my best friend here, we did nearly everything together, so it has been very strange not to have her here. I know I've been distracted and I have not been doing as well as I should be. I've been trying, but I miss her." Thea starts to cry. She takes a couple deep breaths to try to calm herself unsuccessfully.

Leyla nodds. As Thea starts to cry, she walks up nexts to her, an puts her arm around her shoulder. She leads her, to sit down on the bed, without letting go, sitting down next to her. She squeezes the shoulder gently, and sends her a comforting smile.
"I can understand how you feel, Thea." She talks in a calm, friendly way. "It is very hard to be here, when ones best friend, is somewhere out there, taken away from yourself, and her other friends. But there are other Jedi out there, looking for her and they will bring her back. You must not give up your hope."

Thea follows Leyla, leaning against her. Thea nods. "I know the Jedi will be able to find her, but I don't understand why anyone would want to take her? She is only a child, who would want to take a child?"

Leyla sighs.
"I know it's hard for you to understand. But there are people out there, that will do anything, to earn money or make trouble. And in the end for them, it doesn't matter who they're hurting. Whether it's a man, woman or a child, it doesn't matter, as long as they can do as much damage, to their benifit as possible."
She tilts her head, looking at her and squeezes her shoulder gently again.
"And unfortunately, for them, the Jedi are doing what they can to stop them, which is probably very frustrating for them. They then, also want to do some damage to us.
When you get older, and become a Padawan, you get to go out on missions around the galaxy and some of those assignments you will do, is stopping people like that."

Thea nods slowly. "What do you think they want with her? If they want money then they won't hurt her will they?"

"If the motive, behind this kidnap is money, then no. Then she'll be too valuable. But," Leyla sighs again. "if there's something else behind it, I can't be sure. But I too hope, that she will come home safe."

Thea doesn't know what to say. She slips her arm around Leyla's waist and holds on to her. She knows Jedi aren't supposed to let thier emotions take control, but she doesn't feel much like a Jedi at the moment. She feels like a child who needs her mother, and the Masters are the only parents she has ever really known. She stops trying to hold back her tears and lets them run free down her face.

Leyla doesn't move away from Thea, as she moves her arm around her waist. She knows the young girl is very upset by the whole situation and fleeing away from it, will not help. Even though some other Masters would frown upon that kind of behaviour.
But Thea was still a child and still had a lot to learn.
"There, there," she says with a comforting voice and squeezes her shoulder. She reaches out with the Force, sending silent, calming thoughts to Thea, as to get her to calm down a little.
"You must be strong, for A'lyra. Take a few deep breaths and relax." Her tone is calm, and a little slow. No rushing. "Think about some of the good times you've spend with her, and that you will be doing it all again, when she comes back. I'm sure she will be happy to see you again, when she comes home."

Thea takes a couple breaths trying to center herself. Leyla's Force presence is comforting. She isn't quite willing to let go of her teacher just yet. "I am trying, Master. When I am busy and in class I can not think about it, its just that when I'm alone or when we would have been together I can't think of anything else."

"I know. I think that the best thing is, to do things, that will keep your mind occupied." Leyla smiles. "Is there anything you want to do, right now?"

Thea thinks for a minute. She really wants help practicing her lightsabre technique which has been causing her trouble, but is a little afraid to admit how much she has been struggling. She takes a couple of breaths steadying her voice more. "I... I would... it would be nice to practice blocking with a lightsabre more. W.. we used to practice together between classes, and I tried on my own since but only succeeded in cutting myself. I went and had it looked at, I promise, but it didn't help me learn."

Leyla is a little surprised, on hearing about Thea cutting herself, but relaxes again.
"You should be more careful, when practicing on your own." She pads Thea's shoulder. "But of course I will help you. Let's get up to one of the training halls."

Thea wipes her eyes on her sleeve and takes a deep breath steadying herself so no one else will be able to tell she was crying. She didn't want the whole ship to know that she had broken down. She gets up and follows Leyla out silently, giving her a slight smile as she does.

Leyla smiles to her and closes the door behind her.
She walks towards the nearest turboelevator, and presses the button that makes it stop on this floor.
She folds her hands in front of her, as she looks at Thea.
"Why do you think, that you have so much trouble, with blocking? I know it's not only because of A'lyra. You have had the trouble before that."

Thea thinks for a minute, following Leyla.
"I think I worry that I am not going far enough so I end up going to far, too close to myself, and missing what I'm supposed to be blocking. I think, at least..."

Leyla nodds.
"I see."
The elevator doors open and she steps in, waiting for Thea to enter, before she presses the button to a level upstairs.
"I think we should try something different this time. We need to get you to stop thinking about that so much and focus more on what you are defending yourself against."

Leyla smiles.
"I can understand that. But, as I have told you before, being a Jedi, does not mean you have to prove yourself with your lightsaber skills. The lightsaber should only be used for defence, which is the only reason why we train in that art. Unfortunately, not all see eye to eye on that part."
The elevator doors closes and they start to move upwards.
"It's not necessarily everyone that are good with a lightsaber. When I was at your age, I didn't like the training sessions I had, first with the teachers and later on with my Master. To this day, I haven't even turned on my own lightsaber in five years."

Thea nods.
"I know it isn't everything, Master. But I thought you had to get at least a minimal level of skill in order to pass your trials. Is that not true? And really I want to stop hurting myself..."
|
|
|
Post by Leyla Mir on Nov 1, 2009 11:19:23 GMT 1
"That is of course true." Leyla nods.
"But there are some Padawans that focus a little too much on training with the lightsaber. It is also important, that you don't hurt yourself, and that you pass your trials. But that's far into the future, before you have to think about that. You need to think about the time, when you are chosen as a Padawan first. And seeing, as your future Master will train you more precisely in the lightsaber forms, then you have plenty of time."
She smiles reasuringly. "As I've also said before, the feeling towards the lightsaber you have in your hands, will change, as soon as it's a real weapon you have in your hands. One failure with the real weapon, can be fatal. But the trick is, that you should open yourself to the Force, and let it guide you, in your moves."

"I understand, Master."
She pauses a moment, "Master, how are we chosen as Padawans? Who decides we are ready? And what if no Jedi wants us?"

Leyla thinks about it, for a moment, before answering.
"When you reach a certain age, there will be available Masters coming to look for a Padawan and, sort of, inspect those that are at the right age. You shouldn't worry about not being chosen. You are a talented Youngling and will one day become a great Jedi."

She pauses a moment, "You are a very good teacher, I'm glad I have been able to learn from you."
