Leyla smiles warmly. "That's good to hear. Keep that connection up, and let go of the saber, with one of your hands."
She steps up next to Thea. "Now, some Jedi think, that as soon as, the Jedi are to find the crystal, that they should put inside the lightsaber, they think it calls out to them, as soon as they are closing in on it. In some cases, that is true. An example for that is, if you go to a planet, like Illum, where most Jedi finds their crystal, that energy, that you feel, will lead them to it. As they are united, there will be a connection between the wielder and the lightsaber. Some Jedi sees that connection as a friendship, more powerful than any other. That is because, the wielder needs to trust the lightsaber, when it is needed. Otherwise, the concequences of flaws and mistakes, can be dangerous and fatal."
She reaches out a hand and takes a hold on Thea's hand, that is still holding the saber. "Trust what I'm doing, and still keep the connection with the crytal."

Thea nods and slowly takes her right hand off the saber, prefering to keep her stronger hand holding the weapon. She keeps her eyes closed and focuses more on the beacon of energy before her and can almost see the blade forming as she puts more attention towards it. She is only slightly startled to feel Leyla's hand over her own, but relaxes letting her teacher take control.
"Ok, I'm ready."

Leyla smiles. "Good. Follow my lead."
She reaches her other hand out, and clicks the button with the Force, that starts the training remote sequenze. She's set it on beginner's level, so it won't be to hard to handle.
The remote comes flying towards them and holds in front of them. Soon after, the first laserbolt comes. Leyla leads her own and Thea's hand with the saber, to block the bolt, in a straight line.
"As the bolts are being blocked, you should be able to feel the crystal at work. It keept the blade steady and makes sure that you are shielded from the laser. Or in some cases, another blade."
As a few laserbolts are shot, Leyla shows some basic movements, and leads Thea, to try some of them, to also keep the fleeing lasers away from themselves.

Thea keeps her mind concentrated on the crystal. She can feel it pulse with each laser bolt and even with her eyes closed she can "see" the blade in those moments. She smiles slightly, her confidence growing as she is able to try a couple of simple moves with guidance. She is finally feeling that the lightsaber is an extension of herself and fully in her control. Finally, she feels that she has a chance to succeed as a padawan and eventually a Jedi.
"It's amazing, like it knows what we want it to do!"

Leyla smiles big, almost laughing. "Yes, that is also the point."
She shifts her position, also her grip in Thea's hand, wanting to let Thea try a little on her own, but still keeping the hand on hers.
"Now, try to open your eyes, still keeping the contact up. Try to handle the remote a little by yourself. I will still guide you, if needed. If needed, I will interfere, so nothing will happen to you. All right?"

Thea nods and slowly opens her eyes and tightens her grip. She takes a moment to refocus on both the crystal and the remote in front of her. She is determined and is able to deflect a few bolts on her own. She smiles excitedly, it is what she always had hoped to do.

Slowly, as she can sense, that Thea's confidence is growing, Leyla lets go of her hand, but she's staying right behind her
She watches Thea's every move and says nothing yet, waiting for the sequenze to end. There was no need of interfering yet.

Thea barely notices Leyla's hand leaving hers, her mind is completely focused on the saber in her hand and the remote before her. She purses her lips in concentration, her eyes boring into the remote, determined to successfully complete the sequence and almost certain that she will be able to for the first time.

A few minutes later, the remote stops shooting lasers. Leyla lays a hand on Thea's shoulder, as the remote flies back to where it came from.
"You've improved a great deal today." She smiles warmly.

Thea looks up at Leyla and smiles. She is beginning to notice the sweat on her forehead, but it doesn't bother her. She is happy with what she has been able to do for the first time in a long time.
"Thank you, Master. I think I'm beginning to understand how it all works. I really appreciate your help, especially for taking the time to see me outside of regular classes."
She smiles shyly but contentedly at her teacher.

Leyla smiles.
"It is no trouble at all. It was also the purpose, that you were to learn more of it. And I can see, that you trying to wield a this lightsaber, was a great help. But, we also must remember, that even though it is a good companion to have, when you need to defend yourself, it is also a very dangerous weapon. I normally don't wish to use it, when training, but this was a special case."
She holds out her hand and hits the button, turning off the blade. "I believe, that from now on, you should be more capable of handling a training saber, if you are as focused, as you were, before."

Thea nods, handing back the lightsaber.
"Yes, Master. Thank you. I really appreciate the extra help. I think I understand a lot better now how it works. I will make sure I keep my focus every time I practice."

"That's good to know." Leyla nods and takes the lightsaber back from Thea, attatching it back to her belt.
"I think we should stop for today. There's no need of too much practice." She bends down, collecting the two training sabers and the helmet off the floor.
Standing up straight again, she smiles to Thea. "But if you otherwise need to talk or a little extra training, you can come to me, if you want to."

Thea smiles and nods at her mentor.
"Thank you, Master." She hesitiates before adding, "You are a great teacher. I'm glad I have the opportunity to learn from you."

Leyla smiles even broader by the compliment.
"It is also a joy, to be your teacher, Thea. And I really think, that you are going to be a great Jedi one day. You shouldn't think, that you won't."
She walks back towards the closet, and puts the helmet back there and the training sabers back in their place, while she speaks.
"There's always something new, to learn about the Force. Even the strongest Jedi, will never stop learning new ways and abilities. And you have years of learning to go. In good time, you will grow more confident and trust your own abilities enough. Time is, in some situations, of the essence, but in others, like in the understanding of the lightsaber, patience is more important."
She walks back towards Thea, as she'd put the tools back. "What I learned you today, is actually a more advanced training, seeing as you are not at the stage, where you are to build your own lightsaber yet. But I did it, because I thought you could handle it and you did it very well."
She lays a hand on her shoulder and squezzes it gently. "And it kept your mind busy, from what has happened. Now you have something exciting to tell A'lyra, when she comes back."

Thea listens carefully as Leyla talks, watching her teacher put away the equipment. She is proud that Leyla trusted her with something so advanced and thinks she did well with it. She takes in the Master's words trying to learn as much as she can from every encounter. But when Leyla mentions A'Lyra, Thea is taken aback. What kind of a friend was she that she had forgotten all about her in her time of need.
Thea frowns slightly, "She is coming back, right, Master? The other Jedi will save her? She's going to be ok, right?"

Leyla's face becomes a little more serious, as Thea asks about A'lyra, but answers as careful as she can.
"I can not say, what I don't know, Thea. I don't think, that the kidnappers would hurt her, if they need her for something, like money. But, like you, I do hope, that she will return to us, unhurt. The Jedi that is sent to look for her, is going to do everything they can, to save her and bring her back home."

She glances around the hall shortly, before nodding towards the door. "Let's get out of here."

"What do you and A'lyra usually do, when you're out of class?" She asks interested.

Thea blushes a bit.
"Well we like to explore different parts of the ship. Or practice our lightsabre techniques. Or visit Mr. Penos in the kitchen and get snacks..."
She looks up at Leyla unsure of how the Master would take that before continuing, "Or we hang out with Jibev or some of the other students and talk."

"I see. It sounds all very exciting." She smiles, as she can sense Thea's nervousness.
"Do you have any friends, among those, who are not Jedi, but still lives aboard the ship? I mean, except Jibev and Vidal PeƱos?"

Thea shakes her head slowly.
"I don't really know anyone else. I've met the new doctor, because I cut myself practicing and needed her help, but we really went towards the food. We would get hungry and go looking for snacks and we got to be friends with them in the process. A'lyra especially likes her snacks. And Mr. Penos always has something special for us."

Leyla smiles.
"That's very nice of Mr. Penos. It's so sweet of him, to look after you Younglings, when you are down in the cantine."
She thinks for a moment before continuing. "But, what I'm thinking, is that, as a Jedi, I believe that it is very important to know the people, that we are supposed to guide and protect, in the fight for justice. It is very unfortunate, that some people have some bad ideas on our ways and priorities. Especially now, with the crisis with the Fallen Jedi. I believe you've heard about that?" She asks, as she starts to walk down the hallway again.

Thea nods slowly.
"I have heard a little, when older students or Jedi have been talking and didn't know I was nearby. "
She thinks a moment. "Would people working with the Jedi not understand who we are or what we do?"

"They would. But, unfortunately, when lies are spread, doubt is as well." She sighs a bid before continuing.
"There are some people, who does not trust us. They will use, every oppurtunity they have, to spread lies about us. It can be someone who's had nothing at all to do with Jedi and it can be the most trusted person a Jedi can know. When in a crisis, like this one, with the Fallen Jedi, that involves those that has left the Order, because of disagreements and disasters on many levels, it will be known in the public. Then the rumours will be spread and with that, lies." She shakes her head by the thought.
"Those that do not trust us firstly, is because they believe, we are a closed society, that only comes out, when needed."

Thea nods slowly thinking.
"So what do the Jedi do, or what can we do, to show people that we are here to help them, not to hurt them? And would someone that does not trust us want to work on a ship full of Jedi? To keep an eye on us? Or just to feel safer being close to us where they might feel... we wouldn't risk ourselves to hurt them? Maybe? Or do the people that work with us - even the non-Force sensitive people - trust us more than some others?"
Thea cocks her head to the side waiting for Leyla's answer. Eager to learn but also just wondering if trying to make friends with the crew would actually help the Jedi over all, not just herself.

Leyla thinks for a moment before answering.
"That's a very good question. It depends on who we're talking about. For example, it will be hard to convince someone, who's already made the decision, that they dislike the Jedi, even though they never met one. There will always be people like that. It's not only Jedi, people dislike, because there are several others out there, that lives a kind of life, that others frown upon, even though they have no idea, what their reasons for their choices are. People critizise each other, because some are so narrow sided, that they think, they lead the right life."
She pauses a moment, before continuing. "With us Jedi, we don't include others in our way of life. Outsiders, if you can call them that, can be very negative about us, because to them, we do live a closed life. The children is, in their words, locked away from the world most of the time and denied a family's love, which can be thought of as mean. But that is because, they don't know about our life. They don't know that, the Jedi is each others family. I expect that most parents of infant Force sensitives, goes through some very serious thinking, when they are approached by the Jedi. They are, truly, asked to give up their children and to a parent, the hardest in this world, is to loose a child. But Jedi can be ... very pursuasive. But, when the child is gone, then the parent can later tell, probably years later, how mean it was of a Jedi, to take their children away."
"But that is of course only those that do not trust us. Those that do trust us, believe that it was the best for the child, to be a part of something this big. But trust is also something you have to fight for. You can't just ignore the fact, that there are others out there. They don't know out our life, but has already made an oppinion about us. And if that is a negative oppinion, we can only do what we can, to pursuade them to turn away from that."
She sighs a bid, before continuing. "When the crew of ths ship, decided to live here, they knew, there would be Jedi living aboard." She shrugs. "If they didn't like us then, then they wouldn't endure the job here, where they would risk to run into one of us."
She stops in front of a turboelevator, and looks with a smile at Thea. "It is very important for us, to have trusty relationship, with at least most of the population. We're supposed to help them, not dislike them back. And if we show them a negative behaviour, they can say no to a Jedi's help next time, they need it."

Thea nods.
"I think I understand. And making friends on the crew can help because after they leave here, perhaps they would tell others about how great thier time here was and how nice the Jedi are to be around. Right? It can only help to bring more people in, even if they don't necessarily feel like they are a part of the group. They could also help us understand others better too, couldn't they? And by showing we are inclusive in some ways we may convince others to trust us too."
