Syll'kann closes the door to his room behind him and turns on the light. His room is not very different from any other Jedi Master's. Except for one thing.
Books. Piles of books, both holocases and real, old, paperbooks. They fill up most of the far side of the wall and some parts of the floor. Since he first learned to read, Syll'kann has had this passion for knowledge and old books. Some of them he collected himself, others he got from his late Master, may he rest peacefully.
Syll'kann allows himself a moment to let a hand follow the lines of books, feeling theirs different rough backs under his fingertips. Then he gets back to what he really came to his room for. He sits down on his bed and rubs his knee once again. If this continues, he won't be able to walk tomorrow. He fetches his commlink from his pocket and dials a number, he knows very well. Too well, some would say.
"Ladda?"

It is only a short moment before the call is answered.
"Syll'kann?" For a moment the voice sounds surprised (and perhaps a little happy?). Then Ladda quickly shakes her head, and finds a more calm tone. "How are you, my friend?"

Syll'kann smiles silently. He could have the Temple's Healers to look at his old injury, but Ladda was the one treating him twenty years ago. She knows how to handle him.
"I'm just fine, dear Ladda. The Archives are still standing, and there is yet more knowledge to collect from the Holocrons. And I found an old book of Rodian litterature." He is too polite to start the conversation by complaining. "And how about you, my dear?"

"No younglings tearing the shelves down in your old library?" Her smile can be heard in her voice. "Well, actually, I have got a new job, for the time being. Master Chappaa'ai asked me to come work with the Jedi at the Chu'Unthor." Once again, a smile makes its way into Ladda's voice. A thing that happens more often when she is talking to Syll'kann, than any other time. "Actually, I am unpacking as we speak."

"Younglings rarely find their way into my 'old' library these days, my dear..." Syll'kann's characteristic silent smile can be heard in his voice, as he speaks. A thing he only catches himself doing when talking to Ladda. His eyebrows raise a bit by the news. "I'm happy for you, Ladda. The Chu'unthor is a great place to work. You will like it, I'm sure. Just be careful when entering the kitchen. They say that the cook has a bad temper."

"A bad tempered cook?" Ladda laughs silently. "Well, I just hope it doesn't affect the amount of spiced meals." She moves around the room a bit, and closes a drawer. "But I am looking forward to begin my work here. It has been too long since I have been around children." A crocked smile forms itself around her lips. "Not that I dislike the company of older people." She doesn't give him time to answer upon that, though. "How are you these days, my friend? It's been some time since I last saw you at the hospital. Your knee any better?"

Syll'kann finds his smile growing a couple of inches, showing the point of his sharpened eyeteeth at the corner of his lips. "Well, my dear... That's part of the reason, why I'm calling you." He feels his lekku twitch a bit. "My knee is aching pretty badly."

"Pretty badly?" Her vioce almost tells how she places one hand on her hip, sending the comlink a despondent glance. "And why, exactly, have you not called me before your knee began to be 'pretty bad', my dear friend?"

Syll'kann winces just a little by the wellknown tone in her voice. Yet his smile doesn't leave his lips. "To be honest with you, dear Ladda, I had hoped that it would just pass..." He sighs. "Now I'm not sure, if I'll be able to walk tomorrow."

"You don't think you will be able to walk? Syll'kann, for how long have you had that knee injury? Twenty years? And still it manages to surprise you that it hurts, from time to time?" The doctor sighs. "You are, without a doubt, the most stubborn man I have ever met." Despite of her words, something in her voice still gives away her smile.

"I'll take that as compliment, my dear..." Syll'kann answers drily, but still with a smile crossing his lips. "And yes, there are things in this galaxy that still surprises even me. My injury is just one of them."

"Well then let me give you another surprise, dear friend: Hoth catches fire if you do not bring yourself and your aching knee to the Chu'Unthor tomorrow to let me fix you. And yes, as your doctor, I can give you direct orders like that."

Syll'kann raises his eyebrows. "That almost could be mistaken for a threat, my dear...." He chuckles silently. "What can I do, but not to obey your order. I'll be there, of course."

"Threat? Dear friend, I am not one for threats. You should know that." She places herself in a chair, taking a break from the clean-up. Her back aches a bit. "When will you be here?"

"As soon as possible." Syll'kann makes a face, as he stands up and tries to walk a bit - just to make some of the pain go away. "I take it that you're awake around 0900?"
He surely will be himselt. His knee will probably not grant him any sleep tonight.

"I am, yes. And earlier if needed."
Her tone becomes a bit more gentle, as if she is talking to a close friend, and not just a patient. And, trouth be told, she is. "Is that when you'll be here?"

"I can come earlier, if you want me to..." Syll'kann replies softly. More softly than he would ever adress a member of the Jedi Order, but he has known Ladda for nearly 20 years and considers her to be his closest friend outside the Order - and his doctor, too, so he'd better behave. "I'm not planing to get much sleep tonight."

"If you can't sleep, rest is the next best thing." Ladda is truly a doctor, yes, and she is not likely to let Syll'kann skip his sleep just because she looks forward to seeing him. "What about meditation, is it not something you Jedi are known for?"

"Yes, it is." Syll'kann smiles silently. "Some are known for it more than others."
Twenty years back he spent hours meditating, making the pain from his knee go away, along with all the rage and frustrations burning in him. That was a long time ago.
"Let's say 0900..."

Ladda decides not to comment about his half-answer upon the meditation subject. Better leave those kind of things to the jedi.
"0900 it is then." She smiles absently, stroking one of her lekku to give her free hand something to do, rather than wring itself from anticipation. "I've been missing your compagny, my friend..."

"I've been missing...." Syll'kann stops himself for a brief moment. "I've missed your company, too, dear Ladda. I'll look forward to talk to you again."

"See you soon, then..." Ladda's voice is silent and gentle. She should just hang up now. Come on, press that little button... It's not that hard...
... No. He can hang up.
Oh come on now, you little baby!!
Ladda sighs silently, biting her lower lip to try and hide her smile.

Syll'kann smiles warmly. "See you soon, dear Ladda..."
He looks at the commlink for a moment. Then he hangs up.
Talking to your doctor shoudn't be like this, right??
Oh, get over yourself...
Syll'kann remains sitting, lost in his thoughts, on his bed, his commlink still in his hand.
